Description

The Act also provides a framework for the detention, care and support of people with intellectual or cognitive disabilities who are subject to an order made by the Mental Health Court.

The purpose of this Act is to provide for the involuntary detention, and the care and support and protection, of forensic disability clients, while at the same time—

(a) safeguarding their rights and freedoms; and
(b) balancing their rights and freedoms with the rights and freedoms of other people; and
(c) promoting their individual development and enhancing
their opportunities for quality of life; and
(d) maximising their opportunities for reintegration into the community.
