El Plan del Decenio de las Américas tiene como objetivo difundir las normativas y legislaciones nacionales y del contexto internacional que promueven los derechos de las personas con discapacidad, con el propósito de darlas a conocer para su aplicación por todos los sectores de la sociedad. Fue promulgado por la Presidencia de la República y el Consejo Nacional sobre Discapacidad de la República Dominicana en 2006.

Este plan de acción constituye un punto de referencia para la planificación de las acciones que el país debe llevar a cabo en el sector de la discapacidad. Cuenta con cuatro objetivos principales, a saber: asegurar a todos los derechos y de la igualdad de oportunidades para las personas con discapacidad, para garantizar la independencia económica de las personas con discapacidad, para eliminar todas las formas de discriminación, para garantizar que las personas con discapacidad puedan participar en la elaboración y implementación de políticas públicas.
El plan es el resultado de un proceso participativo que involucra diferentes partes interesadas, como profesionales, miembros de la sociedad civil, a las personas con discapacidad y las agencias internacionales de desarrollo.

The Decade of the Americas Plan aims at disseminating national and international acts and regulations on the promotion of rights for people with disabilities, in order to raise awareness for their implementation by all sectors of society. It was enacted by the Presidency of the Republic together with the National Council on Disability of the Dominican Republic in 2006.

This plan of action constitutes a reference point for planning actions that the country must carry out in the disability sector. It has four main goals, namely: to assure full rights and equality of opportunities to persons with disability; to guarantee the economic independence of persons with disabilities; to eliminate all forms of discrimination; to guarantee that persons with disabilities can participate in the elaboration and implementation of public policies.
The plan is the outcome of a participative process involving different stakeholders, such as professionals, civil society members, persons with disabilities and international development agencies.
