이 법은 보건소등 지역보건의료기관의 설치·운영 및 지역보건의료사업의 연계성 확보에 필요한 사항을 규정함으로써 보건행정을 합리적으로 조직·운영하고, 보건시책을 효율적으로 추진하여 국민보건의 향상에 이바지함을 목적으로 한다.

The purpose of this Act is to contribute to the improvement of national health through the reasonable organization and operation of the health administration and through effective execution of health policies, providing matters necessary for the establishment and operation of regional health and medical institutions such as public health clinics, and for the purpose of securing a co-relationship of regional health and medical services.
