قامت دولة الامارات العربية المتحدة منذ نشأتها في 2 ديسمبر 1971 بوضع دستور مؤقت لها ما لبث أن الى دستور دائم بعدما أثبتت الاتحادية اتقرارها ونجاحها والتزامها بسياسة معتدلة وتحقيقها لتحولات حضارية ومنجزات عملاقة على الصعيدين المحلي والإقليمي وفيرها للمزيد من الرفعة والرقي لشعب الاتحاد. لتكون بذلك من أنجح التجارب الوحدوية في التاريخ الحاضر.

دستور ليوضح القواعد الأساسية للتنظيم اسياسي والدستوري للدولة إذ أوضح الغاية الأساسية من قيام الاتخاد ومقوماته وأهدافه على الصعيدين المحلي والدولي، كما يبين الدعامات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية الأساسية للاتحاد وأكد على الحريات والحقوق والواجبات العامة ويبين السلطات الاتحادية ونظم إصدار التشريعات الاتحادية وأوضح الجهات المختصة بها. كما عالج الشؤون المالية للاتحاد والأحكام العامة بالقوات المسلحة وقوات الأمن والاختصاصات التشريعية والتنفيذية والدولية بين الاتحاد والإمارات الأعضاء فيه.

The Constitution of the UAE explains the main rules of the political and constitutional organisation of the state. It throws light on the main purpose of the establishment of the federation and its objectives. It also enumerates public rights, responsibilities and freedoms.

The aims of the Union shall be the maintenance of its independence and sovereignty.
1-The safeguard of its security and stability
2-The defence against any aggression upon its existence or the existence of its member states
3-The protection of the rights and liabilities of the people of the Union
4-The achievement of close co–operation between the emirates for their common benefit in realising these aims and in promoting their prosperity and progress in all fields
5-The provision of a better life for all citizens together with respect by each emirate for the independence and sovereignty of the other emirates in their internal affairs within the framework of this Constitution
