Obiectivele urmărite în cadrul Programului Naţional "Educaţia pentru sănătate în şcoala românească" vizează:
1. promovarea sănătăţii şi a stării de bine a elevului, respectiv:
• funcţionarea optimă din punct de vedere somatic, fiziologic, mintal, emoţional, social şi spiritual;
• formarea unui stil de viaţă sănătos.
2. dezvoltarea personală a elevului, respectiv:
• autocunoaşterea şi construirea unei imagini pozitive despre sine;
• comunicare şi relaţionare interpersonală;
• controlul stresului;
• dezvoltarea carierei personale.
3. prevenire, respectiv:
• prevenirea accidentelor şi a comportamentelor cu risc pentru sănătate;
• prevenirea atitudinii negative faţă de sine şi viaţă;
• prevenirea conflictelor interpersonale, a dezadaptării sociale şi a situaţiilor de criză.

• Programul naţional şi curriculum-ul de Educaţie pentru sănătate urmăresc:
• să asigure educarea populaţiei şcolare pentru un stil de viaţă sănătos;
• să faciliteze accesul la o informaţie corectă, avizată, atât în mediul urban cât şi în mediul rural;
• să realizeze, în mod indirect, educaţia adulţilor;
• să conducă la diminuarea numărului de îmbolnăviri şi reducerea comportamentelor cu risc
pentru sănătate;
• să contribuie la creşterea calităţii actului medical.
